I used to think forgiveness meant making peace with the person. Now I think it means making peace with what happened, even when they never took responsibility for it. Forgiving someone doesn’t mean they get access to me again. I can forgive and release without reopening the door. I can let go of the anger while still protecting my peace and choosing who belongs in my life.
